 Gunasundhari |
Through the Charity, "COMPASSION" some members of the branches sponsor a little Indian girl called Gunasundhari. She was born on 7 Mary 1994. She lives with her father and mother. There are three other children in the family. Sometimes her father is employed as a porter. Gunasundhari lives in a desolate farming community in southern India. Families often live in modest one-room huts with no sanitation facilities. Most adults are illiterate and have only temporary jobs during harvest time.
Gunasundhari attends a church-based student centre where children benefit from educational reinforcement and vocational guidance, cultural awareness activities, health and hygiene training etc. Gunasundhari's best subject is Tamil, and she loves to walk and run!

Garvary Branch was formed on Monday 12 November 1951 by the then rector and his wife, Rev Canon R J and Mrs Marian Doonan. We still have three founder members attending branch meetings. The branch celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2001 and to mark the occasion, the branch members made two tapestry kneelers. Sadie Curran, a member of the branch, presented a kneeler in memory of her mother, Mrs Emily Wilson, who was a founder member.
